No family or set of circumstances is alike. There are certain situations, however, that require special attention when considering your estate planning options. The goal is for your wishes to be carried out, and your estate to be distributed in the way you choose and best see fit. Do any of the following situations apply to you? - Do you have young children? Who is going to raise them? Who is going to handle the money you leave for them? If you take no action, then you are leaving those important matters to the local Probate Court.
- Do you have elderly parents that need care if you are not available? Are your parents worried about losing their property because they need long term care? How can they protect their assets so you have an inheritance?
- Do you have a beneficiary who has special needs? What happens to their government benefits if you pass away?
- Are you wealthy or do you have a job with high-risk or liability?
- Non-traditional couples. Recognizing an ever-increasing demographic of people choosing to live together without formally entering into marriage. Also, gay and lesbian couples may need to take specific action to respect their relationship.
- Blended families. “his” children, “her” children, and “our” children poses special circumstances demanding certainty and protection.
